Journeys: Stomach. Stop 3

Enzyme scissors

We're inside the stomach, in the sour juice. Run your finger between the beads and cut the long chains of protein!

Snip! That's how the enzyme pepsin cuts protein into pieces, so the body can use it.

This piece is still long. Keep cutting, down to one or two beads!

Pepsin cuts the protein from meat, eggs and milk. It works only in sour juice, and that's why the stomach needs acid.
