Journeys: Ears. Stop 1

Sound wave

How does a sound get into the ear? Hit the drum with the stick. Swipe your finger from top to bottom!

The drum pushed the air, and waves ran through it. They fly into the ear and rock the eardrum.

A soft hit makes small waves, and the eardrum barely shakes.

A hard hit makes big waves, and the eardrum shakes hard!

Now hit it very gently. Swipe slowly.

Now hit it hard. Swipe fast!

The eardrum is thin as paper and shakes even at a whisper. Then the little bones pass the shake on.
