Where the heart lives

The heart is lost! Put it in the chest, where it beats.

Not here. The heart lives in the middle of the chest, a little to the left, between the lungs.

This is its home, between the lungs. The ribs stand around it like a fence and protect it.

Make a fist. Your heart is just about that big. Tap your fist, and the heart squeezes too.

The heart works like a muscle pump. It squeezes and pushes out blood more than 100 thousand times a day!

On an X-ray, the heart shows up as a light patch between the dark lungs.
