Journeys: Skin. Stop 1
Three layers
We've cut the skin open and can see it has three layers. Touch them from top to bottom!
The top layer is as thin as paper. It keeps renewing itself, and old cells flake off.
The middle layer is strong. Hairs grow here, and nerves and tiny blood vessels hide here.
The bottom layer is made of fat. It keeps you warm and softens bumps.
This is real skin under a microscope. The dark strip at the top is the top layer.
