Journeys: Nose. Stop 4

Two nostrils

Experiment! Close one nostril with a finger and breathe in. Then the other.

Which nostril is easier to breathe through? Touch a picture!

That happens! Nostrils take turns. One breathes more while the other rests.

The same right now? Try again in the evening. Nostrils swap every few hours.

Now hold your nose and say “mama”. Does it sound different?

Different! Some sounds go out through your nose. With your nose held, “mama” sounds like “baba”.

Say it again, slowly. Can you hear the sound getting stuck in your nose?

With your nose pinched, food hardly tastes of anything. Most of taste comes from smell!
