Smell keys

Smell cells at the top of the nose have locks. Make the smell of lemon. Put each key from the card into a lock of the same shape!

Click! The key fits and the cell sent a signal to the brain.

That key does not fit this lock. Look for the same shape.

Two keys together, and the brain knows it's lemon! Now make strawberry.

Strawberry! The same locks, a different smell. Chocolate is left.

There are thousands of smells and far fewer locks. The brain builds smells from keys, like words from letters.
